■ What is i format forum?

　i format forum is a non-profit organization that was established with the objectives of facilitating various corporations to enter the LBS industry and contributing to the growth of the industry. In order to achieve these goals, the forum promotes i format, which basic technology specifications are necessary to provide navigation services.
　The forum has and will strive for improvement, meaning that forum organizers constantly engage in researching, challenging possibilities, and implementing new practices for the better performance. Moreover, the forum provides a great amount of information to the members to ensure a positive relationship and mutual understanding.

■ i format forum's Mission

　The expansion of mobile phones and other communication infrastructures, as well as the prevalence of Internet technology, is still behind the rapid growth of the telematics service market. The market provides mobile POI information services for vehicle drivers and pedestrians through devices such as navigation systems, PDAs, and mobile phones.
　Although competition between corporations in the industry can lead to further development, i format forum believes the fundamental technology for such navigation services as map distribution, route calculation, route guidance, and POI searches should be open to everyone so that all the corporations benefit from overall cost reduction.
